Start your own Streetwear label

ABOUT
Can’t find a T-shirt that feels like you? Wrong print, wrong size, wrong colour? What if you could make your own, featuring your very own design, and then get it out into the world?!
Design and produce your own streetwear label with Josh Salmon and Jasper Storer-Reeves from Oni Streetwear in Castlemaine.

Oni Street Wear opened late 2021 when Josh and Jasper saw an opportunity to fill a gap in the clothing market in Castlemaine. With both of them being skaters, and realising the shop is a short roll from the local skate park, they decided to incorporated skate boards and skate tools. The shop now stocks clothing, hats, shoes, bags, stickers, skateboards, safety gear, skate tools and accessories. They also offer custom printing services for clothing and stickers.

With this Youth Take Over Josh and Jasper will take you through the process of prototyping a T-shirt to having a finished product in your hands.

As a group you will work together to create a brand, with each participant also creating a design or two (or more).  Josh and Jasper will show you their own branding process and the decisions they made to get to ‘Oni Street Wear’.

Together the guys will help you develop design concepts, will show you the actual process of printing on a shirt using equipment in the shop.  Once you’ve made a prototype and got your designs sorted, Josh and Jasper will work with you to set up your own designs on a drop shipping website, empowering you to get your own fashion label started.

Drop shipping gives you the ability to produce T-shirts on demand, is low-cost and mostly hands off for the designer. The drop shipping company takes care of printing and shipping, and also provides an online shop. Josh and Jasper will take you through the nitty-gritty of setting up a drop shipping account so you can get your designs into more hands!

At the end of the project you will take over part of Oni Streetwear’s retail space with your very own designs up for sale.

This Take Over is based in Castlemaine’s CBD. Oni Street Wear is a 10 minute walk from the train station, and close to car parking. There is a large workspace out the back of the shop that we’ll operate from.

This is a great opportunity to start your own label, get an understating of how retail space works, enjoy the hands-on experience of making and get your creativity rolling! If you’re interested in fashion, art, design, illustration, making stuff, online and bricks and mortar retail, this is right for you. No specific skills or knowledge is needed for this takeover.
This Take Over will be in person and involve six, 1.5-3 hour sessions, over 6 weeks. Each member will undertake a role in the team. All activities will be covid safe and adhere to the most up to date restrictions of the time.

Join a Take Over that designs, creates and works with local artists, and get creative!
