Wedderburn VCAL 'Have a Say' Workshop
Students studying the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) at Wedderburn College were recently given a voice in local government decision making, contributing to the Loddon Shire Council Plan 2017 – 2021. The ‘Have a Say’ workshop was organised by project officer Barb Bear and teaching staff, Rhys Church as part of the ‘Youth Building Places and Spaces’ project, managed in partnership with the Buloke and Loddon Shires. Students provided feedback, watch the video below to see their responses:
After presenting their views, Loddon Shire’s Community Development Officer, Carmel Pethick briefly explained the role of Council to students and suggested strategies to help bring about change in the community such as writing letters to Council, petitions to politicians, preparing designs, plans and investigating quotes for structures such as a skate park and exercise equipment, applying for grants and organising fund raising events.
