Youth Parliament

Picture
ABOUT
Each year the YMCA runs a project to get young people into the halls of power.  Here’s a little information from their website:

“Youth Parliament is a program run by YMCA Youth Services that gives young people a chance to be heard at the highest levels of the Victorian Government. Through this program, young people between the ages of 16 and 25 can share their views on a wide range of issues relevant to their lives.

Twenty teams of six participants receive training in public speaking and leadership at residential camps, as they research the issues they are most passionate about.

With the assistance of an experienced Taskforce, compiled of past participants, the team will research and debate a state issue they are passionate about and present it in the form of a Bill in the parliamentary chambers.

Bills passed by the Youth Parliament and given the assent of the Youth Governor, are then passed onto the State Government of the day for consideration.”

Youth Take Over is putting together a team of young people from the centre north of Victoria (Campaspe Shire and around) to participate in the Youth Parliament in 2022.
WHO CAN JOIN?
This Take Over will be based in and around Campaspe Shire, but you may be able to attend some of the sessions online.  There are two residential components in May and July – these are compulsory aspects of the project.  If you’re interested in making a difference, politics, research, policy and democracy then this Take Over might be your first step into a new career. No specific skills or knowledge is needed to sign up for this Take Over.
WHAT'S NEXT?
YMCA will be starting this project in February, and you’ll need to be available for residential workshops in May and July.  If you think politics is in your blood, sign up now and let us know!

If this doesn’t seem like quite the right opportunity for you, check out the other Take Overs or send us a message about the Take Over you’d love to be part of.
