North Central VET Cluster

Working together to coordinate and expand student access to high-quality Vocational Education & Training delivered in secondary schools (VETDSS) across the region.

VET clusters support schools to work together to plan, coordinate and expand student access to Vocational Education and Training (VET). They are the primary structure for place-based coordination of VET delivery to secondary school students and play an important role in strengthening pathways into priority industries.

The aim of the VET Clusters are for Secondary schools to work collaboratively to ensure VET is available across the six VCE VET priority industry areas, reflecting Victorian skills shortages, government priorities and industry growth. Funding has been provided to support cluster establishment and operation through to 31 December 2026.

North Central (NC) VET Cluster was officially established in 2024, however there has been a long-standing agreement and operation between the Cluster Schools and the Trade Training Centre for many years, ensuring high-quality VET delivery to secondary schools across the region.

The primary function of the North Central VET Cluster is to expand the range of learning opportunities available to students in the North Central Cluster Schools. By coordinating efforts, administrative support, and providing strategic guidance, the VET Cluster strives to improve the availability of VDSS options within our area.

The Trade Training Centre (TTC) situated in Charlton serves as a 'host school,' delivering VDSS options to the home schools within this cluster.

VET Transport

Providing free, coordinated transport to help rural and regional students access VET courses and training opportunities.

The Victorian Senior Secondary VET Transport Program provides free, tailored transport to help rural and regional students access Vocational Education and Training.

Through options such as buses, taxis and carpooling, the program removes distance and travel barriers that can prevent students from participating in VET courses delivered at TAFEs, schools and industry training sites.

This statewide initiative supports nearly 2,000 students across more than 81 schools, improving access to priority courses including building and construction, agriculture, hospitality and other industry pathways.

By making travel reliable and accessible, the program helps increase VET participation, engagement and retention for students living in regional communities.

Local transport planning is coordinated by the North Central LLEN, working closely with schools and training providers. Transport arrangements are integrated through VET clusters, enabling efficient, shared access to Trade Training Centres and other training locations.

Together, this coordinated approach ensures students have the opportunity to access VET courses without their postcode limiting their opportunities, supporting stronger pathways from school into training and employment.
